Takchang (Nepali: ताकछाङ) is a village near Pakyong in East Sikkim district, India. Takchang is 42 km from Gangtok and the population of the village is nearly 250-300. Ethnic Nepali and Lepcha are the main settler of this village. Etymologically the word "TAKTSONG" is derived from Lepcha (Tibetan) language. The word tak means "tiger" and tshong means "house", translating to "House of a Tiger".

Takchang is located at 27.18°N 88.53°E. It is around 3000m (approximately) above the sea level.

Folk Tale related to Takchang सम्पादन गर्नुहोस्

According to the Folk stories and the old people reside in this village call "Bagh Khor" in Nepali language where there people had to scared from the Tiger. The Book "Takchang Ko Ittehas" written by Achut Sharma says that people used to find many Tigers in early 17th century. Here live the people of different castes & crites beside that there are many subcastes or title of those people like (Neupane, Ghimire, Koirala, Bastola, Dulal, Dangal, Luitel, Rai, Rongkup (Lepcha), Chauhan, Thapa, Bishwakarma, Lohar and so on. Slowly people started saying the name of the village from Taktsong to Taksong and nowadays it has came up to Takchang (ताकछाङ ).

People are mainly engaged in primary sector like house farming, Agriculture, pitty business, Horticulture etc. Most of the youngsters are away from the village because of their job. Youngsters from the village are engaged in Private & Govt. sector in Capital city Gangtok and some other states as well as abroad for their studies & job. There is a Government school too in the middle of the village. People engaged in agriculture produce as their main crops every year is Paddy (Dhaan), Maize (Makkai), Millate (Kodho), Ginger (Adhuwa), vegetables products & less quantity of cardamom ( Aalinchi).
