दासप्रथा मानव समाजको एउटा अपरिहार्य अवस्था थियो । यसको जन्म तत्कालीन उत्पादक शक्तिहरूको आवश्यकताहरूको अनुकूल थियो । दास समाजमा युद्धबन्दीहरूलाई सामूहिक रूपमा मृत्युदण्ड दिइँदैनथ्यो । त्यसको बदलामा उनीहरूलाई काम गराउनका निम्ति जीवित राखिने गर्थ्यो । यो उत्पादनको विकासमा सहायक थियो । दासमालिकसँग ठूलो मात्रामा उत्पादनका साधन र श्रम विद्यमान हुनाले ठूलो परिमाणमा उत्पादन र सहकार्यलाई सङ्गठित गर्न सम्भव भयो ।
